Kampala Lord Mayor Salongo Erias Lukwago took advantage of the mammoth crowd of FDC supporters to reaffirm his ties with the opposition party flag bearer Col Dr Kizza Besigye, dosage which were lately coming under question.

Riding on the massive audience at Nakivubo stadium where thousands gathered to welcome Besigye from his nomination at Namboole, Lukwago said he has always been big fan and close friend to Dr Kizza Besigye.

“Today I was among the 20 people present to witness Besigye’s nomination at Namboole,” he boasted.

“I did this, not because he is my friend, not because he is an FDC candidate, but simply because he is a strong fighter who has withstood all sorts of political storms,” he said.

“The strength of every man is not seen in the celebrations, races but on how he withstands the storm. That is why I am entirely in support of Dr Besigye.”

Besigye and Lukwago’s ties were recently coming under security following the unsuccessful efforts by The Democratic Alliance to field a single candidate, as Besigye protested the choice of Hon Amama Mbabazi. Lukwago termed this a big disappointment to Ugandans.

But at the Nakivubo rally he described Besigye as the only person capable of leading Ugandans against the ruling NRM government.

“And he has an entire team of General’s behind him,” added Lukwago in reference to FDC President Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu and former Intelligence Chief Gen David Sejjusa. “This will be a do or die.”
