Uganda Telecom in partnership with Hive Colab on Monday launched a hackathon with the intention of encouraging and showcasing talent by IT professionals and developers in Uganda.
The developer(s) of the winning prototype from the hackthon will be rewarded with a grand prize of USD 3,500 (approximately Shs126m).
According to Bemanya Twebaze, the Administrator, Uganda Telecom, the hackthon was created to give a platform to the many IT graduates to showcase their talent so as to hook up employment opportunities.
“Every year, thousands of IT graduates are released into the workforce. These brilliant minds have enormous potential and creativity and often need such platforms to show case their ideas and skills. That’s why this Hackathon was created; we are doing this because we feel that innovation is best demonstrated by bringing ideas to life and the best way to find out if an idea is good is to try it out,” Twebaze said.
He added: “As a key player in the ICT sector, we recognize the potential of IT innovations and how they have shaped our world today. And as a proudly Ugandan brand, we are always looking for opportunities to partner with local talent and brilliant minds and this Hackathon is just one of those opportunities. The big news is developer(s) of the winning prototype from this Hackathon will not only be rewarded with the GRAND PRIZE of USD 3,500 but their prototype will be actively developed into a full-fledged website.’’
He therefore encouraged all skilled developers to sign up for this Hackathon for the two open weeks; closing on Friday 1st September 2017.
This ideation event will bring together a number of IT professionals and developers and allow them to show case their potential, skills and ideas.
