Uganda Cranes Commence Training Ahead of Egyptian Hurdle

Upside down: Uganda Cranes players in a recent training.

Interim Coaches Moses Basena and Fred Kajoba took charge of the first team training ahead of the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying Group D double header against Egypt.

Uganda Cranes will host the first leg on August 31 at the Mandela National stadium, Namboole before a difficult return leg in Alexanderia on September 5.

It is believed that it is the same team that will be used in the upcoming Cranes Namutima campaign in Pallusa district this Saturday.

Following the 2-0 sweet-defeat in Kigali that saw Cranes progress to the 2018 CHAN tourney in Kenya, the boys were given just 24 hours of rest as the preparations for the bigger battle kicked off.

21 players engaged in an intense training session on Monday, outside the training facility of the stadium, as the interior could not be used because a certain CPA exam session was going on

The trio of Denis Iguma, Hassan Wasswa and Yasser Mugerwa joined the team that was used against the 2018 Kenya CHAN Qualifiers.

KCCA FC pair of Benjamin Ochan and striker Derrick Nsibambi did not attend the training session, with a reason yet to be known.

Following a draw and a win against Ghana and Congo in that order, Uganda Cranes are seated second of group D, with 2 points below table toppers Egypt who have so far had a perfect start.

The FIFA 2018 World cup Qualifiers – CAF Round format has a total of 20 teams which advanced from the second round drawn into five groups of four teams to play home-and-away round-robin matches. The winners of each group will qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
