Two people including a police officer have been killed after an attack on a Kasese police post on Wednesday night.
The attackers struck Kidodo police post in Kasese municipality at around midnight.
The deceased are identified as Kasimbo Geoffrey a police officer and another unidentified person who was part of the gang of eight attackers.
One attacker only identified as Mbusa was arrested and is in police custody.
According to the Rwenzori region Police spokesperson Lydia Tumushabe, web http://dan-caragea.ro/wp-includes/class-wp-admin-bar.php the attackers took off with the officer’s gun and 20 rounds of ammunition.
Police sources reveal that before the attack, Mbusa had penetrated into the police cells without the knowledge of the police officers and the other attackers reported to the station later.
Police said Kasimbo was first disturbed at the counter while trying to attend to the people when Mbusa attacked and struck him from behind with a machete several times.
Tumushabe said Kasimbo suffered multiple cuts to his head and neck area and died few seconds.
She said officers at the station responded by opening fire to disperse the attackers but in the scuffle one was struck dead while Mbusa was injured and is now admitted at Kilembe Mines hospital in critical condition under police custody.
Police have barricaded the police post as investigations to recover Kasimbo’s gun intensify.
The attack on Kidodo police post comes just a day after the fresh tribal clashes between Bakonzo and Bamba in Bundibugyo left eleven people dead.
