Moses Basena conducted his first training session as Uganda Cranes interim head coach.

Basena took charge of his maiden training session on Monday evening with the Cranes squad he summoned for the Championship of Africa Nations (CHAN) qualifier against Rwanda.

The UPDF FC coach was appointed interim manager of the national team on Monday taking over reigns from departed Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic.

Basena took about 20 minutes praying with Fred Kajjoba (goalkeeping coach) and physiotherapist Allan Ssewanyana before training commenced.

He later took the team through short drills around the cones before splitting the group of into two groups.

However, several players missed the session. Vipers SC players were engaged with their club in the friendly against Mbarara City FC at Kakyeka stadium.

These included Ismail Watenga, Nicholas Wadada, Deus Bukenya, Frank Tumwesigye, Erisa Ssekisambu and Tom Masiko.

The other players who weren’t part of the team include Tom Ikara, Rashid Toha, Mohammad Shaban and Isaac Muleme.

Basena believes the team will be perfect before the first game slated for 12th August.

“The training was perfect and players showed commitment and I believe we shall keep improving slowly until the day of our first game,” he said.

Uganda takes on Rwanda on 12th August in the first leg at St.Mary’s stadium Kitende before a return leg in Kigali a week later.

Foreign based players Hassan Wasswa and Khalid Aucho also trained with the team.

Adriko (SC Villa),Bernard Muwanga (SC Villa), Timothy Awany(KCCA FC), Paul Musamali (KCCA) and Savio Kabugo (Proline).

Midfielders: Paul Mucureezi (KCCA FC),Muzamiru Mutyaba (KCCA), Simon serunkuma (SC Villa), Nicholas Kasozi (Synergy) and Shafik Kagimu (URA).

Forwards:Nelson Ssenkatuka(Proline) and Derrick Nsibambi (KCCA).
