Odoi to Announce Mbarara Primary Results A Week Later

The political war is unfolding between former Makerere University Academic Staff Association Chairperson Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba who lost to Dr Francis Mwesigye Runumi in the just concluded NRM party primaries for the Kabale municipality MP seat.

The latter however, doctor protested the results citing massive rigging before vowing to run on the independent ticket in the 2016 general elections.

Days after the contested primaries, pictures emerged of Prof. Nuwagaba smiling with his rival Dr Runumi.

The latter posted along the photos that he had reconciled with the Professor and that he accepted the election results.

When contacted however, Nuwagaba told us that Runumi took advantage of his meeting with friends to take the selfies that he is now using to claim the inexistent reconciliation.

“I was in a meeting with [James Musinguzi] Garuga at Piato Hotel in Kampala talking to him about poor pay of workers at his tea firm in Kabale. That’s when Dr Runumi showed up and asked to take pictures with us,” he said.

“These are the pictures he is spreading on social media, claiming that he has reconciled with me and that I have accepted the botched election results.”

Insistent that he would not accept Runumi’s ‘illegitimacy’ Nuwagaba added, “…He stole the votes; he should not play childish games.”

Dr Runumi had previously described those standing on the independent ticket as self-seeking people whose intentions would only but hurt the ruling party.
It’s now five days and contestants and supporters are still awaiting results of last week’s NRM repeated primary elections in Mbarara district.

The District registrar Mr. Yoramu Kacumita while speaking to Chimpreports today confirmed that the party EC boss would have the final say on the results.

He further revealed that Dr Tanga would make the pronouncements on Thursday November 26th.

Kacumita however, advised the candidates and their supporters to be civilized during the party elections, short of which would hurt their own party.

He cited the people of Rwampara who went as far as threatening electoral officials, the army and police during the primary elections in the constituency.

“If we can fight ourselves in such primary elections, what shall we do in the general elections?” e wondered.
