Mao has severally stated that his team has got competent leaders and is doing everything possible to sail the party through the turbulence.
“Those calling for my resignation should be aware that I was elected by 71 percent of the delegates in Katomi last year,” Mao said.
The President revealed today that since the party is set to hold a National Council (NC) meeting next month, he would use the platform to call for a vote of confidence, in which members will decide on whether or not he should step down.
“There will be two boxes were members will cast their ballot on whether I should remain the party president or not; if the majority have no confidence in me, I will leave the leadership of the party and give my farewell speech,” Mao told press on Tuesday.
“I am doing so because our team is aiming at enforcing discipline among members, re-organizing leadership structures and dealing with those fermenting conflict in the party.”
Mao warned that those members thinking that he would beg them to come back to the party are mistaken.
“After our election in Mbale, we begged aggrieved members to come back home but in the current 5 years, we are not going to beg anyone.”
