Basketball lovers will this Wednesday be treated to an epic battle of a university derby as both men and ladies basketball teams from UCU and Nkumba face off at YMCA outdoor court in Wandegeya.

Nkumba Lady Marines and UCU Lady Canons will open the proceedings at 6pm in the first game of the day.

The Lady Canons’ recent unbeaten run was altered as the team lost to Roger Sserunjogi’s KCCA Leopards, and that was the only defeat the team has faced this season.

That defeat came in overtime, on the day their top players in Sarah Ageno and Judith Nansobya hit 17 and 13 points respectively.

The club will hope to bounce back and return to winning ways against the Lady Mariners.

Lady Mariners who are coached by Julius Lutwama with Timothy Odeke as his assistant will go into this game at the back of a 57-43 victory against the Stormers.

The team must replicate that victorious performance if they are to cause an upset.

In the last game of the day, Nicholas Natuhereza’s UCU Canons will be hoping to pick their 5th consecutive win when they tussle it out with Nkumba Marines.

Canons have beaten Tomahawks, JKL dolphins, Falcons and Ndejje in a row.

Steven Wundi will be a major player for the Canons as he has not missed a game.

The Mukono-based side has scored 114 points, averaging double figures in the 9 games so far.

Nkumba Marines on the other hand have suffered 6 defeats together, with Power and Warriors still to play.
