National Cycling Team Off to Ethiopia

The Uganda Cycling Federation on Saturday sent a delegation of 9 people who include 3 officials and 6 cyclists to Ethiopia at a flagging off ceremony held at Land Star hotel, Makindye.

The Youth Minister, Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi presided over the ceremony.

The team is set to represent Uganda in the tour Meles Zenawi hosted by Ethiopia which Uganda will be taking part for their first time.

The Tour Meles Zenawi is part of the UCI Africa Tour in category 2.2 that will start on August 28 up to September 2, 2017.

This is event marks the 9th activity on the Uganda Cycling Federation calendar in a space of 8 months after the National team qualifiers race in Kalagi; the Women’s day race in Nakasongola; Juniors’ race on Mityana roar; Kabaka birthday race; Labour day race; National Championship in Madaka, Kabaka’s Coronation race in Mubende and the East African tour.

19 countries are expected to take part in the Tour Meles Zenawi with host country Ethiopia bringing in two teams to make a total of 20 teams.

Uganda will compete with Hosts Ethiopia, Algeria, Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote Dvore, Djibout, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania and Zimbabwe for glory.
