Muhoozi Kainerugaba, prostate http://demo.des.net.id/hospital/wp-includes/post-template.php has said he will advocate for the introduction of the sport of Polo in the UPDF.
Brig. Muhoozi made the remarks on Sunday while officiating at the end of a two day polo tournament for the Madhvani Cup at the Kakira Nile Polo Club in Kakira, http://chasingjamesbeard.com/wp-content/plugins/pinterest-pin-it-button/views/admin-help.php Jinja District.
The tournament, the fifth to be held in Uganda, was won by Lato Milk Polo Team, who beat Tata Prima in the final.
Lato Milk has a milk factory in Biharwe a few kilometers from Mbarara.
The factory which boasts a 500,000 liter processing capacity is part of the Midland Group of companies that was started in Kenya in 1937 but now has its headquarters in Dubai.
“This game is very good and important for the military but unfortunately it has not been part of our culture,” said Brig Muhoozi.
“We know from our history that in other countries entire military units have been mounted on horses. We should introduce this equestrian culture into the UPDF and start participating in tournaments,” he added.
The UPDF Chief of Staff of the Land Forces, Brig. Leopold Kyanda, was also in attendance at the fun-filled event.
The game of Polo can be breathtaking and is played by two opposing teams riding horses with each struggling to score a goal against their opponent.
It requires a lot of horse riding skills and a great sense of balance to play the ball. The polo game is divided into 4 periods called ‘chukkas’ (an Indian word that means ‘round’).
Each chukka is 71/2 minutes. Each team is comprised of 4 players, each player has a specific handicap (or capability); the more experienced players have a greater handicap.
The lowest handicap in polo is -2 and the greatest is 10. Very few players in the world attain the 10 handicap.
Polo is thought to have originated from ancient Persia (present day Iran) over two thousand years ago, it later spread to present day Turkey, India and later on to Great Britain in the 19th Century.
The chairman of the Madhvani Group, Mr. Nitin Madhvani, said his team were happy to host the now annual polo tournament in Uganda and thanked the sponsors of the tournament such as Nile Gold, EFG Bank (a large Swiss private bank), Barclays, Shell V-Power, Turkish Airlines and Lato Milk for helping to popularize the sport in the country. Mr.Nitin Madhvani has been a keen polo player for years and his two sons participated in the tournament.
A big crowd of local enthusiasts of the sport turned up to watch the tournament from mainly Jinja and Kampala.
However, there was a large contingent of other fans that travelled from as far as Argentina, Spain, Canada, Australia and neighbouring Kenya to watch the teams in action.
The teams included players from all over the world.
A section of Kabarole NRM delegates have rejected a motion moved to support the historic Kyankwanzi resolution backing president Museveni as the party’s sole candidate in the 2016 presidential elections.
This was during the Kabarole NRM leaders’ conference organized by Kabarole District RDC Stephen Asiimwe and addressed by Minister for presidency Frank Tumwebaze at Kalya Courts in Fort Portal municipality during the weekend.
What was organized as leaders conference however turned into NRM delegates’ conference when minister Tumwebaze asked the participants to move a motion in support of the Kyankwanzi NRM MPs resolution to have president Museveni as the party sole candidate.
The motion was moved by Yakubu Gowani, approved http://coachesacrosscontinents.org/wp-admin/includes/export.php the political assistant to local government minister Adolf Mwesige.
However, more about http://comeduraredipiu.com/wp-admin/includes/media.php this did not go well with a section of NRM cadres who include Gilbert Kayondo, sickness Joseph Mashuhuko, Eunice Habwomugisha, Emmanuel Tugume, Mary Rwakyaka, John Kyaligonza among others who argued that backing president Museveni for sole candidature demonstrates lack of democracy in the party.
Mashuhuko rejected the motion on grounds that Article 39 of NRM constitution empowers national delegates’ conference to elect the presidential flag bearer and not the district conference.
“We can never vote for the presidential NRM party flag bearer because this was leaders’ conference and not NRM delegates’ conference to discuss issues of NRM. How come independent leaders like District Chairman Richard Rwabuhinga was not invited and other leaders. Even the mover of the motion Gowani Yakubu does not appear anywhere in the NRM party structures and we know him as Minister Adolf Mwesige’s political assistant”, charged Mashuko.
Kayondo said this kind of the arrangement to have sole candidate kills democracy in the party.
However, top leaders were in support for president’s sole candidature for 2016 general elections.
Minister Frank Tumwebaze told the participants that this campaign is done purposely to preserve the unity in the NRM party that has seen development and prosperity take place in the country.
“If we allow other party members to contest for the presidency in 2016, we shall be giving them chance to kill the unity in the party,” he added.
Minister Mwesige said, “President Museveni has been the best leader world over showing exemplary leadership and governance.”
While Tumwebaze and Mwesige argued that the sole candidature motion is aimed at consolidating NRM internal cohesion, observers say the move is a counter response to sacked Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi’s alleged presidential ambitions.
Mbabazi’s allies have been covertly mobilising supporters at the grassroots to have the NRM Secretary General take over the highest political office in the land.
Mbabazi maintains he will not stand against Museveni in 2016, a statement dismissed by the president’s strategists as untrue.
The ministers have been in the Rwenzori districts convening meetings with the aim of disseminating president Museveni’s message on improving household income to all leaders most especially NRM officials at Sub County and district level.
