Museveni Cousin’s Bodyguard Shoots One Dead in Sembabule; Police Speak Out

Paul Tumukunde was gunned down by a police officer yesterday

Police in Sembabule District have in detention three people including an officer attached to the Police Presidential Guard (PPG) who is said to have shot and killed an unarmed civilian following a brawl.

Police Constable Canan Nkamuheebwa (Number 6307) reportedly murdered one Paul Tumukunde on Thursday evening in Sembabule town.

Nkamuheebwa  according to police, is an escort to a member of the First Family – an unnamed cousin of President Yoweri Museveni. The deceased on the other hand was a son to the LCIII Chairman of Lugusuulu Sub County, Fred Karekure.

The regional police spokesperson Lamech Kigozi says the incident happened at around 16 :30 at the shop of one Grace Katushabe where the suspect alleges to have been slapped by the deceased.

“Nkamuheebwa opened gun fire on the deceased, shot him two bullets which  ripped through his armpits killing him instantly,” said Kigozi.

Two other people who were with Nkamuhebwa were arrested. These are Abbey Kasigazi a UPDF Private and Johnson Abaasa, their driver.

The trio was traveling in a Toyota Land Crusier Registation Number UG 2036C

They are currently in custody at Sembabule Police Station.

The body was taken to Sembabule Health Center where postmortem was conducted before the body was handed over to family.
