MPs To Probe Rwenzori Killings; Museveni Among Witnesses

Members of Parliament on the Defense and Internal Affairs Committee have finalized arrangements to start probing the violence in Rwenzori region, pharmacy which has claimed dozens of lives.

Last week the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, hospital Jacob Oulanyah directed the Committee to investigate the matter and report back to parliament.

The Committee chaired by the Mubende Woman Member of Parliament, this web Benny Namugwanya on Wednesday laid down the work plan that will start with visiting the scenes of the violence in Kasese and Budibugyo starting next week on Wednesday.

Namugwanya told Parliament today that in the course of their investigations, they will interface with a number of personalities, notably President Yoweri Museveni who was in the area early this week.

“His Excellency is among the key persons or witnesses we are going to interface with,” She added.

Bloodbath in the Rwenzori region resurged almost immediately after the just concluded election season, although authorities are emphatic that the clashes are not politically motivated.

The attacks have been very grisly, that in multiple cases people armed with rudimentary tools launched assaults at security installations. About 30 people are said to have lost lives in the districts of Kasese and Bundibugyo.

The Parliamentary Committee will have 10 days starting Wednesday next week to conclude its work and report back to Parliament.
