Man Arrested Impersonating Late Kaweesi Family

Murdered AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi

Police in Masaka have in detention a 29 year old man who has been claiming to be a brother to the deceased former police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

Mubarak Mucunguzi, who also calls himself Mubarak Munyagwa was picked up by officers at Kayirikiti in Nyendo township.

The regional police spokesperson Lamech Kigozi says the suspect was netted while extorting money from a local bar manager.

“He reached out to a bar in Nyendo Township and claimed to be a staff of greater Masaka region police. He identified himself as SSP Kayongo Mubarak,” Kigozi told Chimpreports.

In Masaka police ranks there is a Kayongo Hamza, a Superintendent of Police, in the portfolio Depurty RPC.

Kigozi says Mucunguzi‘s victim – the bar manager – thought he was dealing with the Deputy RPC himself.

Mucunguzi, according to the police mouthpiece, threatened to close the bar because of some security lapses, and eventually reached an understanding with the manager of paying him some money.

“The bar owner had so far paid him Shs 400,000 so through mobile money,” said Kigozi.

The manager however, for purposes of accountability, asked Mucunguzi to start signing for his payments, and also called in the OC Nyendo to come and identify the man as a Masaka police staff.

“That’s how they go him as a con man,” Kigozi says.

“Upon arrest, we quizzed him on whether he is related to the late Kaweesi as he has been telling people and we found that he has not connections at all with the family.

Two charges of impersonation and obtaining money by false pretense were pressed against him.
