Kigezi Bishop Orders Probe Into Priest’s Sex Scandal

Akankwasa alleges that in July 2013, Kyarikunda visited their home at night to inform them about death of a relative but her mother told the priest that they didn’t have money for transport fare to go for the burrial.

As a result, the priest reportedly volunteered to give them some money for transport but said that Akankwasa had to pick it from his home.

She claims that on her way back home, after getting the money from the priest, he followed her up to Ikamiro playground while pestering her for sex. 

She says that she was reluctant to give in for fear of conceiving, but the priest promised to exercise precaution since they didn’t have any protection. He reportedly promised to use the withdraw method but failed.

She adds that after some months, she realized that she was pregnant, and told the priest, who since then distanced himself. 

 Akankwasa claims that after delivering her baby, she started receiving threats from the priest warning her against ever revealing their secret to anyone.

Bishop Bagamuhunda, while speaking to our reporter in a phone interview said that due to public outcry and to maintain sanity in the church, a disciplinary committee had started investigations to discover the truth of the matter. 

“We have not expelled Rev. Kyarikunda as it has been said by some people, but we are following the necessary processes, and with evidence, the church tribunal will take a decision,” said Bishop Bagamuhunda.
