The Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura has ordered the Professional Standards Unit (PSU) to investigate Kampala Metropolitan Police South RPC Siraje Bakaleke over speaking to media without being authorized.

“Unauthorized officers have continued to either release information to the media or involve the media in operations, “said Kayihura in a letter written by his Deputy, Okoth Ochola on his behalf.

On Saturday, Bakaleke mounted a night operation in which he nabbed a number of junior police officers sleeping and ordered their detention.

The operation was covered by media.

According to the police boss, such actions amount to breach of confidence and disobedience of orders under the Police Code of Conduct.

“You are to henceforth reign on those officers who conduct themselves contrary to the contents of the circular.”

Recently, the police spokesperson AIGP Asan Kasingye said a few officers apart from himself, the IGP and regional spokespersons are not allowed to speak to media.

When asked on the issue of Bakaleke publicly arresting junior officers during the weekly press briefing on  Monday, Kasingye said it was an internal matter .
