Journalist, FDC Chief Mobilizer Arrested in Kasangati

Police have arrested and detained one journalist near Forum for Democratic Change Presidential candidate Col Dr Kizza Besigye’s residence in Kasangati.

Remmy Bahati who was reporting live for NBS television was grabbed by livid anti riot police officers and bundled in a waiting police van.

In the scuffle, view one of the party leaders Ingrid Turinawe who is the FDC’s secretary for mobilization was also arrested and together with Bahati whisked away to an unknown destination, thumb amidst protests from colleagues.

The FDC national executive committee members were Tuesday afternoon slated to hold a meeting with their candidate Besigye in a bid to decide on the next step as the deadline for filing a petition against the mid February election results closed in.

Police have previous barred reporters around Col Dr Besigye’s home and accused them of showing sides in their coverage.

The Police spokesperson Fred Enanga recently justified the maltreatment of reporters saying that they themselves had started behaving as politicians.
