Indian Investor Donates Shs30m Badminton Items To NCS

The 16 badminton mats will cover 4 courts

Sun Herbal Jelly Limited company proprietor, Vaheed Mohammed has donated sixteen badminton mats to National Council of Sports (NCS).

Vaheed, an Indian investor in Uganda and also an enthusiast of the game of badminton handed over the playing mats worth Shs30m to NCS Assistant Secretary General, David Katende at NCS headquarters, Lugogo on Tuesday.

The mats come at a time when the few available are old and are substandard according to Vaheed who believes the new ones will help to mitigate the lack of playing surface.

“We have hosted tournaments here but the few mats we have are very old and do not meet the standards of international badminton. It is why I took the initiative to acquire new mats,” he said.

The sixteen mats provided are sufficient enough to cover only four standard badminton courts.

Katende thanked Vaheed on behalf of the National Council of sports and government for the donation and promised to use the mats appropriately.

“We are thankful to Mr.Vaheed and Sun Herbal Jelly limited company for the initiative done to promote the game of badminton in Uganda. It takes only a person who loves sports to donate such equipment. As government, we are willing to work with such investors and people who promote games,” he said.

“We promise that the mats delivered will be put to good use to help promote the game in Uganda.”

According to Vaheed, the mats imported from China cost him a total of 40 million shillings with Shs10m paid to URA on taxes levied
