The Uganda Parliamentary Women Association (UWOPA) has organized a conference to build support for their colleague, stomach Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga to defend her position in the coming 10th Parliament.

ChimpReports over the weekend obtained the copy of an invitation letter signed and extended by the UWOPA Chairwoman, sale Betty Among to all the existing and new women Members of Parliament for a two days event at Hotel Africana.

On Saturday we reported a move by two male contenders; the Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah and Foreign Affairs minister Sam Kahamba Kutesa to team up against the incumbent Kadaga.

ChimpReports understands Hon. Amongi who is also the wife of Uganda People’s Congress Party, health Jimmy Akena was in Zambian capital Lusaka for 5 days with Kadaga on an official Parliamentary duty.

The Speaker proceeded to New York before returning quickly, perhaps to energize the female parliamentarians’ conference.

The two days event we understand has been harmonized with the commemoration of the World’s Women Day.

According to the invitation, UWOPA is organizing the event together with the Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET), FIDA (U), Action for Development (AFCODE), and the Greater North Parliamentary Forum.

“The purpose of this letter is to invite you as a duly elected member of the 10th Parliament to this important platform where joint strategies will be discussed and will inform the development of the legislative agenda for the 10th Parliament,” read the invite in part.

“We will be greatly honored if you accept to attend the invitation. You will be provided with the daily subsistence allowance of 180,000 per day.”

Our efforts to reach Hon. Amongi on phone were futile.
