The Forum for Democratic Change Secretary General for Kabale District Sentaro Byamugisha has been nominated to contest for the Kabale municipality mayoral seat in the 2016 general elections as an independent candidate.
Byamugisha decided to contest as an independent after boycotting last week’s FDCs party primary elections citing irregularities.

Dr Pius Ruhemurana who has been the Kabale Mayor since 1997 was nominated on Tuesday as the FDC flag bearer as well as NRM’s Paul Birungi, while Wilson Mbabazi a lawyer is to stand as independent candidate.
A major standoff between the incumbent and Byamugisha which split the party members down the middle and forced the latter to go independent, is now feared to affect the opposition party’s efforts to defend the seat.
Even the intervention of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President Major General Gregory Mugisha Muntu failed to yield fruits.
Several meetings have been held without success to sort out the wrangles between the two which led to the closure of the party offices of the both contenders.
