Three Ugandan schools have secured slots in the finals in boy’s football at the ongoing East Africa Secondary schools tournament in Gulu District.
National champions Jinja SS, record champions St. Mary’s Kitende and Nakaseke International reached the semifinals and were joined by Kenya’s Kakamega Boys.
National champions Jinja Secondary School were the first team to book a berth in the semifinals after edging out hosts St. Joseph’s Layibi in a tense penalty shootout.
Normal time had ended in a one all draw but Jinja SS won the penalty contest 4-3 with substitute goalkeeper Joshua Rubangkene saving three spot kicks.
In the second, Kitende proved their prowess with a 2-0 victory against Kibuli SS in the game played at St. Joseph’s Layibi playground.
Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye and Paddy Agama scored the two goals in the first half where Kitende seemed too dominant.
Nakaseke went ahead to eliminate Tanzania’s Alliance 2-1 in the game played at SOS while Kakamega Boys outwitted St. Anthony from Kenya 3-0.
In the semifinals to be played on Thursday morning, St. Mary’s Kitende will play Kakamega while Jinja SS will face off with Nakaseke International in a repeat of a group C game.
The group encounter between the two sides ended in a goalless draw but the two sides met in the national copa coca cola tournament in Masaka and Jinja SS edged Nakaseke in a penalty shootout in the semifinals.
