Kawempe Muslim and Uganda Martyrs High School Rubanga breezed into the semifinals of the girl’s football at the ongoing East Africa Secondary School games.
Kawempe put up a fantastic display outclassing E.S Mutunda 3-0 in the quarterfinal final game played at Layibi.
In the other quarterfinal that involved Ugandan teams, Uganda Martyrs went against the odds to eliminate national champions Mukono High.
In the game played at Gulu High on Wednesday morning Rubaga earned a 2-1 victory.
Anita Namata gave Rubaga the lead with a lobe over goalkeeper Vanessa Karungi midway through the first half.
However, the lead was short lived when Fauziah Najjemba tapped home the rebound after Dorcus Namukisa’s initial had been saved.
The opening 35 minutes ended one all as the mandatory break. Mukono returned recharged and proved the better the opening minutes of the second half.
They even went ahead to score through Dorcus Namukisa but the goal cancelled after an infringement.
This seemed to destabilize Mukono and Rubaga used the opportunity and Rashida Nankya scored the second goal.
They eventually held on to win and reach the semifinals on their maiden appearance at the tournament and will now take on Kawempe Muslim.
