Athlete David Emong has been voted the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) sports personality for the month of July.
In a monthly assembly convened at Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala on Monday, Emong was voted the best for July.
Emong emerged winner beating three competitors to the coveted monthly award.
The athlete won gold at the World Para Athletics Championship in the T46 1500m race. This was Uganda’s first ever gold medal in Paralympics.
He also won silver at the Paralympic games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last year.
Emong garnered a total of 395 votes to beat Joyce Josephine Lalam who settled for second place with 275 votes.
Lalam won gold in Javelin at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau, Bahamas throwing a distance of 51.89m.
The others include Paul Mucureezi (245 votes) and Joan Mukova (235) who finished third and fourth respectively.
Mucureezi scored a double brace as Uganda outwitted South Sudan in the CHAN qualifiers in Lugogo.
On the other hand, Mukova won a gold medal at the 5th International Wood ball championship held at Kisubi beach. She also went on to win a gold medal as a team with Ndejje University and silver in the mixed doubles.
