The Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni has Tuesday officially launched a project aimed at empowering women and communities to look after children.
The First Lady officiated the function the 9th Commonwealth Youth Minister’s Meeting which is underway at Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo.
The minister in her speech noted that the only way to have an empowered generation of youths is by investing in them from the time of conception till they are 30 years.
“We are required to put a natural effort focused on children primarily,” she said.
The Commonwealth Secretary General, Patricia Scotland who was present at the event also emphasized that it is important to invest in children.
“Our true wealth is in our children, if we choose not to invest them then we are wasting a resource that will never come back,” she pointed out.
Scotland lauded Janet Museveni and other different delegates for the great job that they have done to contribute to the development of Commonwealth children.
“Thank you mama for stopping the tsunami of pain and injury to the children of the Commonwealth,” she said.
Other guests who graced the occasion were Pastor Kayanja of Miracle Center, Minister of Youth and Children Affairs Florence Nakiwala Kiyinji, UNRA Executive Director Kagina and Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Gender and Social Development, Pius Bigirimana.
