Geoffrey Byamugisha, the former Kabale district secretary of education and sports, who also doubles as Bukinda Sub county district councillor, was Monday elected the interim Chairperson for Rukiga district unopposed.

Byamugisha’s challenger and also the Kamwezi Sub county councillor, Jackson Muganizi, failed to get someone to second him.

Muganizi was nominated by the female councillor for Kamwezi, Muhanga and Bukinda Sub counties, Mable Size, but when the district electoral commission returning officer, Juma Sheesha, who presided over the election called for someone to nominate him, no one came out.

The Rwamucucu Sub County district councillor, Eddy Mugisha, was appointed as the district Vice Chairman, Councillor Gaston Muhereza as the secretary for works, Finance and administration, Addah Busingye as the Secretary for Education, health and community services, while Paulina Rugira was elected the secretary for production, marketing and natural resources.

Chairman Byamugisha promised to work with all the stakeholders of Rukiga for its development.

Herbert Kabafunzaki, the Rukiga county MP also asked the locals to work together for the development of their new district

“We need to put a side our political affiliations and differences if we are to see Rukiga develop. The services that we will get from the district will help us all, not because of our affiliations,” said Kabafunzaki.
