Busitema University has written to the Ministry of Finance following the delayed payment of salaries, Chimp Corps report.
“It has come to our notice that the June 2017 Salary for Busitema University staff amounting to Shs 1,506,308,086 shillings has gone missing at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development,” the letter signed by the university association boss, Dr Hannington Twinomuhwezi, reads in part.
“This therefore means that Busitema University staff will not be paid the salary of June 2017, which is not only absurd but also very unfortunate.”
The cause of this crisis remains unclear.
Efforts to obtain a comment from Finance Ministry officials were yet to bear fruit.
Busitema University Management said it submitted all the required documents to the ministry about this matter which is yet to rectify the situation.
ChimpReports understands that in the meeting of the Joint Executives of Staff Associations of Busitema University (Academic, Administrative and Support Staff) held on June 28, 2017 at Busitema University Main Campus, it was resolved that Staff will go on industrial action effective July 5 if the matter is not resolved.
Officials said this would paralyse all activities at the University until when they receive their June 2017 salary.
