Police commanded by Kampala South RPC James Ruhweza have cut off Forum for Democratic Change offices in Kampala ahead of a planned protest, Chimp Corps report.
FDC officials are slated to stage a demo in protest of the detention of their own Sam Mugumya who is being held in the Democratic Republic of Congo on alleged involvement in rebel activities.
Anti-riot police with several police vehicles and teargas canisters are standby outside the party offices.
FDC spokesperson Mr John Kikonyogo is set to address the media on the plotted demo.
Some insiders however have intimated to Chimpreports that the demo will involve a march from Najjanankumbi to the DRC embassy to demand the release of Mugumya.
One of the party mobilizers Francis Mwijukye told us the police presence is uncalled for.
“This now is a matter beyond anti-riot police. It’s an international matter that we are dealing with. I would expect Interpol or the army itself, ” he said.
Mugumya was arrested by the DRC army, for allegedly partaking in mobilization of a rebel group.
UPDF spokesperson Lt Col Paddy Ankunda had promised his extradition in the course of the previous week.
We’ll keep you posted on the developments.
