Afcon 2017: Samatta Carries Tanzania, False Start for Kenya

CECAFA region teams played out mixed results in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers that took place on Wednesday 23 March. Kenya, order Tanzania and South Sudan were all present.

The only  winner of the day, nurse Taifa Stars from Tanzania picked a crucial 1-0 win away to Chad in a group G fixture.

RKC Genk’s newbie Samatta Mbwana continued with his stupendous form, visit this scoring at the stroke of half hour to give Charles Mkwasa his first Afcon win. The tricky forward was also wearing the captain’s armband for the first time.

Tanzania have now four points  and will host Chad on Monday 28 March at the national stadium in Dar Es Salaam. The other members of the Group G; Nigeria and Egypt clash in Lagos on Friday and return leg on Tuesday at the Pharaoh’s capital.

False Start
The newly elected Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa and Harambe stars coach Stanley Okumbi stumbled after the country’s national team fell 1-0 to Guinea Bissau. The West Africa finished the job early in the 18th minute at the Estadio 24 Setembro through Idrissa Camara.

In the other game of the day, South Sudan fell at home to Benin’s Stephane Sessegnon’s magic. The Saints FC dependable player Bernard Agele was absent from the tie as he could not catch his plane on time to travel. The match was attended by new FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

In the other upcoming games, Uganda Cranes will take on the Stallions of Burkina Faso on Saturday same time Rwanda will be clashing Mauritius.
