Shortly after the wedding of his son at Common Wealth Resort, Munyonyo, a fortnight ago, Kutesa traveled to India where he was referred to for treatment.

He is expected to return in early September as he needs time for bed rest.

This has caused the delay in the hearing of a case in which he is charged alongside two other ministers John Nasasira and Mwesigwa Rukutana for reportedly causing government financial loss of Shs14bn during preparations for the Common Wealth Meeting in Kampala in 2007.

The ministers deny the charges.

Anti Corruption Court Chief magistrate Irene Akankwasa was today Tuesday compelled to halt the hearing of the case until Kutesa returns in the country.

The case stems from alleged misuse of funds during the construction of a parking lot and a mariner at Speke Resort Hotel, Munyonyo, where the heads of state resided during the meeting.

The defendants’ lawyer Didas Nkurunziza had earlier argued that the case could not proceed in Kutesa’s absence, considering the ministers were jointly sued by the IGG.

Kutesa retained his ministerial position in a cabinet shakeup announced last week.
