Mao was on Monday addressing a press conference at Verina Hotel in Kasese town. He said FDC was misled to think they had a stronger candidate.

“FDC has been misleading the public that they have a stronger candidate. Where did they get that assurance? It is like failing to sit an examination after knowing that your classmate is likely to score highly than you,” Mao said.

Mao said they have for a long time rejected pressure from FDC convincing other opposition candidates to pull out from elections in favour of their candidates.

He also said FDC and NRM parties have made the Kasese by-election too expensive for other parties.

“Almost all FDC officials have money because they were in NRM government before they quit unlike DP which was in power in 1960s and never had opportunity to grab money from the treasury,” Mao explained.

Masika said she was not happy with the electoral commission because it gave little time for campaigns and she was unable to campaign in all the sub-counties in the district.

Masika expressed she would win the August 8 poll but expressed worry over the high deployment of different security agencies in Kasese.
