It was certified on August 2.

The certificate clears the air on Museveni’s date of birth which has since been a hot topic in Uganda, with political activists saying the president had already clocked 70 and is shy about revealing his real age.

In fact in June last year, police had to deploy heavily in Kampala to block youth from a pressure group which identified itself as “Free Uganda Now Movement” to block what they had termed as Museveni’s 73rd birthday party.

According to the certificate, Museveni, who was 27 years-old, married Janet Kataaha in August 1973.

At the time, Janet, a student, was 24 years-old.

This means Museveni is now 66 years-old.

The revelation is also significant in a way that Museveni has only one term left to stand as President.

This is because in 2016, Museveni will be 70.

If he chooses to stand for another term and wins the election, the president will be 75 in 2021 and cannot contest again because of Constitutional term limits.

The President’ spokesperson Tamale Mirundi was not readily available for comment.

The certificate shows that the marriage was solemnized at Christ Church Turnham Green in the London Borough of Hounslow.

Parish Christ Church Turnham Green is a public park situated on Chiswick High Road, Chiswick, London.

According to our research, this venue is separated in two by a small road. Christ Church (George Gilbert Scott, 1843) stands on the eastern half of the green.

A war memorial stands on the eastern corner. On the south side is the old Chiswick Town Hall.

The Green is the site of local community events, including a traveling fun fair, church events and charity table-top sales.

Present at the function were Janet’s uncle and guardian John W Kazoora and a one Salim Said Rashid.

The president’s name was recorded as Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni while that of his wife as Janet Charlotte Kataaha.

Museveni, according to the certificate, was an army officer and his address as Po. Box 914 Dar el Salaam, Tanzania while Janet’s was 11 Fairfox Road W.4.

Interestingly, research shows that either Museveni did not have a personal address or was scared of putting his life in jeopardy, as the one presented belonged to Tanzania’s Inspector General of Police.

It’s important to note that in 1970, Museveni joined the intelligence service of then Ugandan President, Dr Milton Obote.

When Major General Idi Amin seized power in a January 1971 military coup, Museveni fled to Tanzania with other exiles, including the deposed president.

In September 1972, the exile forces, supported by President Julius Nyerere invaded Uganda from Tanzania and were repelled, suffering heavy losses.

The situation of the rebels was compounded by a peace agreement signed later in the year by Tanzania and Uganda, in which rebels were denied the use of Tanzanian soil for aggression against Uganda.

At that time, Museveni briefly worked as a lecturer at a co-operative college in Moshi, in northern Tanzania, before breaking away from the mainstream opposition and forming the Front for National Salvation (FRONASA) in 1973.

That was a few months before travelling to UK for the marriage ceremony. A year later, Keinerugaba Muhoozi, now Special Forces Group commander, was born.

The certificate also bears Museveni’s father’s name as Amos Kaguta Museveni, a farmer and Janet’s as Edward Kataaha (departed), a county chief.

The certificate was signed by Vicar David T under application number 4202268-1.
