They raided IPC headquarters at Katonga in Nakasero, at around 2pm, picking eight top planners of the demonstrations.

They were smoked out from their meeting, chaired by among others, Ingrid Turinawe.

A police source says upon arrest, the young men, who were being given guidelines of today’s operations, revealed today’s plans to security.

The director of operations is Kampala region police boss Andrew Kaweesi. He is the former commandant of Masindi Police Training School. The graduates of the school are now in charge of all police stations in Uganda, giving him an upper hand in smashing opposition activities.

Sources say Kaweesi, like his boss Gen. Kale Kayihura believes in pre-emptive measures in controlling violence.

And during a security meeting on Saturday at police headquarters in Kampala, Kaweesi told his juniors that if 50% of planners were arrested, the protests will be nipped in the bud.

However, this information leaked in the evening. All opposition leaders were told to be very keen with their

In the evening, FDC president’s special aide Anne Mugisha said:

“There is a police operation going on right now and activists are being arrested throughout the night.”

She also confirmed that two other youth leaders had been arrested.

“I believe Mwijukye Francis is among those now being held at Jinja Road Police Station and their phones have been taken. I can confirm that Fiona Busingye is being held at Kiira Rd. Police station. We urge mobilizers to take care. We shall start legal procedures for police bond and bail as early as possible. Hang in there,” she said, alerting other opposition leaders.

She further revealed that security had a plan of sealing off homes of key figures in opposition.

“We have information that the police intends to block key W2W leaders in their homes tomorrow (today). Do not be discouraged! Walkers are country wide, simply W2W and the so called ‘key leaders’ will take care of themselves.”

Earlier, Makerere University students only identified as Allan and Brian had been arrested as they left the Katonga Road meeting.

“Allan was arrested with the first group at Katonga Road and Brian was arrested at the traffic lights in Wandegeya on a boda boda. Their whereabouts are still unknown. We have lawyers who are willing to help them but first we must locate them,” Mugisha said

Kaweesi says opposition has a different agenda.
