page "sans-serif"; font-size: small;”>The political activists were picked up from the Interparty Cooperation (IPC) offices along Katonga Road, remedy Nakasero, Kampala.

They include Ingrid Turinawe, a vocal women activist who was a few months ago hospitalised after a brutal fight with armed police personnel.

The arrest followed intelligence reports that the opposition chiefs were doing final touches to plans for tomorrow’s walk-to-work riots.

FDC President’s special aide Anne Mugisha confirmed the development: “Ingrid Turinawe and several Kampala Coordinators of A4C are under siege at Plot 6 Katonga Road office in Nakasero, Kampala. There were in a coordination meeting for W2W. 8 activists who were leaving the meeting were rounded up into a van and driven away to an unknown destination.”

Police sources say the activists were taken to Central Police Station in Kampala for interrogation.

Particulars of those arrested are still scanty.

“It was a pre-emptive arrest,” said an up-to-date police source.

Kampala Police commander Andrew Kaweesa reportedly alerted his boss Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura of the meeting before arrest.
