Obama’s Commandoes Arrive In Kampala

search "sans-serif"; color: black;”>President Barack Obama told congress today the troops would help in defeating the murderous rebel, remedy who has committed the most brutal human rights violations in Uganda’s post-colonial history.

They will command a fresh offensive into South Sudan, Central African Republic and Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Obama said the rebels orchestrated a campaign of mass massacres, rape and kidnapping thousands of innocent civilians in the four African nations.

The two-decade war has left millions displaced, thousands mutilated and murdered by the rampaging rebels in northern Uganda.

“These forces will act as advisors to partner forces that have the goal of removing from the battlefield Joseph Kony and other senior leadership of the LRA.”

He was quick to add that his men would not lead the fighting themselves.

“Although the US forces are combat-equipped, they will only be providing information, advice, and assistance to partner nation forces.

“They will not themselves engage LRA forces unless necessary for self-defence. All appropriate precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of US military personnel during their deployment.”

Obama said a small group of troops arrived in Kampala on Wednesday and more are due next month.

The development comes at a time UPDF has heavily deployed around the Congo border. Army commander Gen. Aronda Nyakairima spent a week in the Rwenzori region overseeing mobilisation of masses. He said LRA fugitives were planning to strike Uganda again.

Intelligence reports further indicate that Museveni’s brother Gen. Salim Saleh trained a 2000-strong elite unit in Arua for a full year in preparation for annihilating Kony.

The French Foreign Ministry told press click here yesterday countries affected by LRA menace should join hands and finish Kony once and for all.

While in Uganda, the US troops will coordinate with Special Forces commander Col. Muhoozi Keinerugaba. He has brigades in Congo and CAR hunting for Kony.
