Sam Kutesa (Foreign Affairs), John Nasasira (Chief Whip) and Mwesigwa Rukutana (Labour) were forced to resign by President Yoweri Museveni over their involvement in a Shs14bn Chogm deal.

It’s alleged they abused office and caused financial loss to government while awarding tender for fixing of Common Wealth Resort, Munyonyo ahead of the 2007 conference.

Analysts say Museveni could quickly move and make changes in cabinet to avoid a stalemate in sensitive dockets especially Foreign Affairs.

Kutesa’s deputy Okello Oryem is now taking full charge of Foreign Affairs.

There is talk in official circles that Museveni intends to reshuffle Cabinet to bring on board ICT Minister Ruhakana Rugunda as Kutesa’s replacement.

A former Internal Affairs Minister, Rugunda was Uganda’s representative to United Nations for the last four years before being appointed ICT Minister.

David Bahati is likely to be promoted to full chief whip following the firing of his boss Nasasira.

In fact sources say Bahati had earlier been appointed Chief Whip only for a senior Minister to drop his name for Nasasira at the last minute.

Bahati is being seconded by Janet Museveni for being God-fearing (mulokole).

Meanwhile, there are unconfirmed reports that Kutesa, after being told to step down, told Museveni he was retiring from public service.
