The Hippos start their campaign away to Rwanda in the weekend of 1-3 April and the return leg in Kampala around 22-24 April 2016. The aggregate winner from the two legs tussles out against Egypt in the next round of qualifiers with the winner playing the best team among Angola, Chad and Gabon.
Seven teams will emerge from the qualifiers to join the hosts Zambia for the final tournament which is scheduled for 26 February to 12 March 2017.
All the semi-finalists at the championship qualify to represent the continent at the U20 FIFA World Cup.

At around 6:00 am, their mother reportedly left for work at Wampamba trading center, but after a few minutes, she was notified that her house was on fire. Area residents tried to brake in but were unable to save the toddlers from the flames.
“What our investigation team has so far is that the fire came from a candle which the four year old lit, as their mother Harriet Nasaka had told him when she was leaving for work that morning. We have taken the bodies to Luwero hospital for postmortem,” said Lamech Kigozi the area police spokesperson.
