Another MTN Manager, Mr Stephen Mutana said since its launch, MTN Mobile Money remains the fastest growing product in Uganda with more than 5.2 million registered users each transacting on average five times a month.

The popularity and growth of MTN Mobile Money supported by a large agent network exceeded 27,000 agents and significantly increased financial inclusion of the unbanked public.

MTN customers have continued using the Bill payment channels to pay their Electricity and Water bills through MTN Mobile Money.

Mutana revealed that more than 85 percent of the mobile bill payment collections in Uganda are made through the MTN Mobile Money platform little wonder that the 2012 Global Mobile Money adoption survey, ranked MTN Uganda 2nd in the world in terms of number of active Mobile Money customer accounts.

Responding to customer concerns on fraud issues, Mutana stated; “We have also strengthened our internal monitoring and Anti Money-Laundering system and also increased public awareness through continued communication, all as a step by step measure to curb these issues.”

He added: “This has been achieved through various platforms and forums including our Mobile Money Agents and Distributors such as yourselves who play a vital role in supporting our efforts in the development of MTN Mobile Money product”.

The highlight of the evening was when Guests were later requested to relive their most memorable moments when MTN Mobile Money changed their lives and boy, did we have great stories to listen to.

Most moving stories earned the narrators gifts ranging from Sumsung Galaxy tabs, to latest Nokia phones. Indeed everyone was a winner as beautiful ushers moved from table to table handing of gift hampers to each of the guests.

In his speech, Mbarara Mayor Mr. Wilson Tumwine who officiated as Guest of Honour thanked MTN for recognizing the value of customers.

He particularly thanked MTN for its innovativeness that has saved the country from the risky business of carrying large bundles of cash and for coming up with utility payment platform through Mobile money a move he added, has saved customers both time and money.
