According to Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Police Spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan, Matovu went for a boat ride with his other four friends, but while on the boat and almost in the middle of the lake, the deceased jumped into the lake to swim.

Apparently, due to a big storm on the lake, Matovu drowned.

“We were told by Takah Hashiham, the son of BMK who was also on the same boat, that they tried to rescue their friend, by throwing him a life jacket, but all in vain,” Onyango said at the weekly press briefing today at Central Police Station, Kampala.

Onyango adds that “since Olavi was not familiar with the area, it was very hard for him to survive.”

The police’s marine unit are on the search of the body since there is no possibility of survival as its past 24 hours.

He warned “all those intending to swim on this particular side of the lake that they risk drowning, because that part is so deep.”

Haji Yusuf Matovu aka Youma is an importer and trader in tiles and sanitary hardware.

He owns Youma Building on Kampala Road and about six mansions in the affluent Muyenga suburb.
