Officials said a statement would be issued soon.

Rwanda has in recent years suffered a series of grenade attacks by members of the FDLR genocidal group operating from within the region.

Officials say the attacks are usually coordinated by FDLR commanders and Rwanda National Congress RNC) officials to destabilise Rwanda.

Recently, four people including musician Kizito Mihigo and a demobilised soldier were arrested for reportedly attempting to destabilise the country. Grenades were recovered in a security operation.

On April 16, four hand grenades were recovered in Muhanga District and two others in Ngororero and Gakenke districts.

The Rwanda National Police recently urged “anyone that still possesses these weapons illegally or knows their whereabouts to voluntarily hand them over or provide information of their whereabouts. There is no criminal liability to anyone who hands over these weapons voluntarily.”
