“I cannot continue working in such an environment. I felt it was the right thing to do,” he told us on phone.

Mandy explained that he has resigned because President Yoweri Museveni extended Uneb Executive Secretary’s term in office yet he (Mathew Bukenya) should be leaving for good.

“Why is it that no one consulted me before making that decision? As the chairman of Uneb, I should have been consulted on whether to extend Bukenya’s term or not,” he pointed out.

Mandy who tendered in his resignation to the Minister of Education, Jessica Alupo yesterday, further observed that no one respects his decisions or listens to his ideas at the board.

“I can’t just sign for a salary the way Bukenya does. I need to effect reforms and make active contributions to the body.”

The discontented Mandy said most Uneb officials are not in line with their duties and can’t allow him change the nation, his main goal.

“It is not fair that Bukenya, at his age, should be given another term yet there is already a potential younger person ready to replace him.”

Bukenya was supposed to be replaced by John Bosco Ntangaare, the Chief Examination Officer at the Institute of Certified Public Accountants ICPAU.

Tensions mounted on Thursday after Mandy ordered his security to throw Bukenya out of office sparking off chaos at the Ntinda based board’s headquarters.

Police led by Grace Turyagumanawe swiftly deployed and averted the disaster.

In a surprising turn of events, President Museveni handed Bukenya another unlimited term following the ugly incident, something that angered Mandy the more.

Bukenya’s contract had expired in December 2012 and according to Hon Alupo, he was to handover the office on March 17, this year.
