The Prime Minister said that “the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development is currently reviewing all land related laws including the Land Acquisition Act, 1965.”
He added that the ministry will soon issue regulations when the new law is enacted.
“At the moment, compensation is governed by Article 26 of the Constitution and Section 77 of the Land Act. This will be strengthened with the on-going review of the Act and the regulations that shall follow,” he emphasised.
Article 26(2) of the Constitution provides for a fair compensation prior to the taking of possession of the property.
