Museveni In Dar es Salaam For Tanzania Celebrations

Norah Katabarwa, Col Kasaija defence Adviser Uganda High Commission, among others.

According to the Presidential Special Assistant for Communications, Ms Sarah Kagingo, other Heads of State expected to attend the celebrations include Kenya’s Uhuru Kenyatta, that of Burundi, Mauritius, Malawi, among others.

According to the country’s official statement, today, Saturday, Tanzania will celebrate Muungano (Union) Day.

Museveni arrives at Julius Nyerere International Airport

It is a public holiday in Tanzania, commemorating the day Zanzibar and Tanganyika joined together to form The United Republic of Tanzania.

After The United Republic of Tanzania was formed in 1964, the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere became the first President of the new Republic, and the late Sheikh Abeid Karume, then the President of Zanzibar, became the First Vice President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council.

The late Rashidi Mfaume Kawawa became the Second Vice President in charge of Government business in the National Assembly.

The history of the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar is undoubtedly unique.

These two States agreed to unite for the benefit of all Tanzanians.
