Joseph Mashuhuko, a strong NRM cadre, strongly condemned the MPs for distributing money ranging from Shs 5,000 to Shs 20,000 to each member depending on the area adding, that the unequal distribution of cash divides people who end up hating the party.
This was during a press conference held at West End Guest House in Fort Portal town on Friday evening.
“I have observed that our MPs are ignorant of the NRM party constitution. They do not read and internalise issues. They would have left the work of mobilisation to the cadres who are mandated to do it and also wait for the National Delegates Conference at Namboole for the cadres to choose the Party President and not them (MPs). These MPs have totally neglected their role and concentrated on dividing the party,” lashed out Mashuhuko.
NRM cadres in a heated meeting
Eunice Habwomugisha, the Chairperson Women League Fort Portal Municipality, noted that the current NRM party in Kabarole is totally different from the past years when cadres participated from the grassroots level to the top.
“Some top leaders came with a hidden agenda to divide members and kill the party. These messes are likely to affect President Museveni if nothing is done to streamline the system. Some who were members of FDC are bringing their confusion into the NRM party,” she said.
Evelyn Junda, the Vice Chairperson Youth League Kabarole said the NRM is sinking because of MPs who promote their own interests, hold meetings in private places giving an example of the recent meeting held in Mayor Asaba Ruyonga’s house instead of NRM offices.
Yusifu Ankunda , Rita Rinah, Henry Kayondo and Gilbert Kayonda all noted that the MPs are using the money as their own platform and not to promote Museveni.
“We have never seen an MP mobilising people since they entered Parliament.”
In a heated meeting, the cadres blasted some MPs for owning and personalising government programmes.
MPs Alex Ruhunda of Fort Portal, Hon. Victoria Businge Rusoke, the district Woman MP were not available for comment.
