The District Police Commander (DPC), Martin Mbabazi, said that the driver of the bus Reg. No. UAH 150T whose name could not be identified by press time, lost control and the bus veered off the road.

It overturned, injuring eight people seriously.

DPC Mbabazi identified the victims as Patrick Nyakairu, 45, of Nakasero Kampala, Faith Mbabazi, 25, of Kampala, Jude Kiyemba, 4, Edith Kawala, 30 from Kampala, Andrew 25, of Mutungo Kampala, Stephen Nyakahuma 32, hailing from Nsambya Kampala and Birungi Kakyo 33, of Mugusu Kabarole district.

According to the DPC, the injured were rushed to Kyenjojo hospital for treatment.

He attributes the accident to over speeding.

The DPC condemned the drivers’ habit of over speeding during the festive season because it leads to loss of lives.

The wounded were travelling from Kampala to Fort Portal to celebrate the Easter with their relatives and loved ones.
