She appealed to producers of a single commodity to start Joint Associations to boost their marketing and sales potential.

Kyambadde said most local producers still face a problem of limited packaging material due to the tax levied on companies that produce such materials.

“Our Ministry is trying hard to remove that Tax. We cannot keep on favouring foreign investors at the expense of the local ones,” she noted.

Speaking at the same function, the Bushenyi District Chairperson, Willis Bashaasha said the trade show had been organised to help the district showcase some of the production potential of the district.

He explained that the function would link local producers with the national ones.

The District Agricultural Officer, Angella Kamasaza noted that Bushenyi is full of farmers who practise their work on small pieces of land.

She identified soil exhaustion as one of the leading problems faced by farmers in the district.

The trade and Agricultural show started on 14th April, 2014 and shall end on the 19th April, 2014 under the theme; “Promoting wealth through local economic development.”

It has attracted both local and national exhibitors including: Valley Wines, National Water And Sewerage Cooperation, UMEME, Uganda Industrial Research Institute, PIBID, Agricultural producers among others.
