Kabale: Delayed Materials Strain ID Registration Exercise

According to the Kabale district Returning Officer, Adams Juma, late delivery of registration materials and machines is currently a major problem as many registration centres haven’t received the materials.

Kabale district has a total of 25 sub counties but about two-thirds of the sub counties have not received the registration materials which include; laptops, signature pads, cameras and document scanners.

Chimpreports visited Kabale Municipal Council Registration Centre but few people could be seen coming up to register for the national identity cards.

The minister for Economic Monitoring in the Office of the President, Hon. Henry Banyenzaki, while delivering a speech for the minister of Internal Affairs, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, at White Horse Inn Kabale, warned some religious sects in the country to stop decampaigning the exercise.

“The exercise is constitutionally provided for in the constitution; anybody who tries to sabotage it will be sabotaging government programmes and will be handled with an iron hand.”

While addressing the nation on Sunday, President Yoweri Museveni said the availability of IDs will empower authorities to put an end to electoral malpractices such as multiple voting and also enabling Ugandans to travel across the region with ease as well as executing banking transactions.
