Mao suggested that as the opposition, they chose to only field one candidate; Brenda Nabukenya.
“All members, more so the youth, should be on guard to protect the votes from the first point to the last,” he pointed out.
Mao is optimistic that the elections in Luweero will be free and fair given the fact that the Mayor for Luweero who is an NRM cadre has also expressed willingness to stand for the same cause.
“We have been in talks with the Luweero Mayor who is independent minded and he has expressed support for free and fair elections in the coming by-elections.”
Nabukenya, the DP candidate lost her Parliamentary seat last month after a Constitutional Court ruling in which Justice Remmy Kasule nullified her 2011 victory on grounds that the EC had breached electoral rules.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has recently set May 22, as the polling date for the by-election of District Woman Representative in Parliament for Luweero District as well as by-elections to fill the vacancies existing at various Local Government Councils which will take place at all polling stations in the district.
