Entebbe Ranked 5th Best Airport In Africa

The second South African airport achieved 2nd place, with East London being runner-up.

Marrakech Menara Airport achieved 3rd place with Tunis Carthage International Airport in 4th.

Entebbe International Airport secured 5th placer this year.

The ranking follow a survey made by Skytrax, a UK-based consultancy firm.

According to Skytrax, the rankings were done on 728 airports worldwide and based on the quality of products and services.

The new facilitiy

Entebbe International Airport is the principal international airport of Uganda.

It is near the town of Entebbe, on the shores of Lake Victoria, and about 41 km (25 mi), by road, southwest of the central business district of Kampala, the capital of Uganda and the largest city in that country.

The headquarters of the Civil Aviation Authority of Uganda were relocated to a new block off the airport highway.

Passenger traffic

Entebbe International Airport served 781,428 international passengers in 2007.

The same source places the recorded figure of international arrivals in 2008 at 936,184 (+19.8% vs. 2007).

In 2009, the recorded arrivals were 928,754 (-0.8% vs 2008).

The decline was attributed to the effects of the Great Recession.

The airport handled 1,023,437 international arrivals in 2010, according to published data (+10.2% vs 2009).

In 2011, international passenger traffic was estimated to have increased to 1.08 million, an increase of 5.24% compared with 2010.

In January 2013, East African print media reported the 2012 international traffic at 1.23 million passengers, an increase of 14% from 2011.


Passenger facilities include an exchange office and left-luggage office.

Entebbe International Airport uses the jetway boarding bridge system.

The head office of Uganda Civil Aviation Authority is on the airport property.

Other facilities include banks, ATMs, foreign exchange bureaux, restaurants and duty-free shops.

Airlines include; African Express, Air Burundi, Air Uganda, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Eagle Air, Egypt Air, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, Feeder Airlines, Kenya Airways, Qatar, Rwanda Air, among others,
