However, the Chairman Electoral Commission, Hajji Badru Kiggundu, yesterday announced that the Kampala mayoral elections be postponed till the next communication from court.

“The Electoral Commission being a constitution formulated body abides by the constitution and cannot go ahead to hold the elections when the matter is still in court,” Kiggundu said.

He advised all the candidates who had been nominated for this post to be calm until the commission receives a formal communication from the concerned courts of law.

Badru also reacted to the allegations by some members of the opposition party whom he says have continuously tarnished his name claiming that he is one of the NRM cadres whose intention is to ruin the EC.

“I am not scared of any one. I am still the same person as before and even if my term ends and someone else takes over, the EC will exist.”

“Even before me, the EC existed, years come and go and even leaders come and go. I’m not threatened by any one, am still Badru Kiggundu.”

Erias Lukwago met his fate after KCCA councillors last year petitioned the minister of Kampala, Frank Tumwebaze, asking him to investigate the mayor’s office.

This later led to the formulation of a tribunal which convicted the Lukwago on three counts of misconduct, abuse of office and incompetence leading to his final impeachment.
