“We will not ask the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, for a leave because we will be attending the caucus on weekends and focusing on Parliamentary issues during week days,” Lumumba said.
The multimillion exercise, according to Lumumba, will only focus on its activities over the weekends with an intention of balancing Parliamentary duties with the caucus sittings.
MPs will also meet with all district chairpersons, sub county chairpersons, and NAADS coordinators, among other stakeholders.
“We have also learnt that the purpose of the caucus is to enable the NRM Members of Parliament to explain to their respective constituencies why they voted President Museveni as the sole NRM flag bearer in the 2016 general elections.”
This comes after the NRM Members of Parliament just endorsed President Yoweri Museveni as their flag bearer in their two weeks retreat in Kyankwanzi.
The move has ever since sparked off debates among educated circles who demand for a clear explanation as to why the ruling party could not given a chance to its members to vie for the top seat in the land.
The opposition has branded the act “an abortion” of democracy exhibited by a party that should be leading by example.
The action has also sparked disagreements within the NRM, especially with the big rift deepening day by day between the President and his Premier, Amama Mbabazi.
The ensuing confusion has prompted NRM MPs to take the idea to the grassroots so as to explain to electorates why they took such a decision.
