In the year 2000, a population of over 1000 people were locked up and burnt to death by the prophet of doom, Joseph Kibwetere, in Kanungu district.

And after the incident, government promised to establish a committee to investigate into the matter but up to now the report has never been publicised.

Gen Aronda also told MPs on the committee chaired by the Mubende District Woman MP, Benny Mugwanya, that his ministry is setting up a multiinstitutional team to review reports of commissions of inquiries that were put in place to investigate the matter and this will be done before the end of this year.

Kibwetere managed to lure his followers that the world was going to end in the year 2000 by asking them to give in their property and be covered in a place they referred to as Noah’s Ark, upon which he set them on fire.
